Honest writing about using nature to improve mental health.

Why this website exists…

This site is for anyone who finds it difficult to switch off and relax.

Nature has healing properties that I don’t think we’ll every truly understand. But, if you have a stressful job, you find ‘letting go’ of work mode difficult, or if you’re just looking for ways to relieve some of the stress and anxiety in your life, you’ve come to the right place.

Up until 2010, I was a certified Psychotherapist, CBT Practitioner and Mindfulness instructor. Then, I moved out of London, to a small town in Somerset. An had to work for a living 🙂

I spent the next years in high-pressure work and ended up hollowed out in ways I didn’t fully understand until I stopped.

After suffering from clinical depression, I decided to take early retirement.Experience the great outdoors, and free your mind.

I was 55, and I left my high pressure work, determined to ‘get my head together’.

I came across a cheap 17 year old Renault Trafic van on Facebook Marketplace, and built a ‘day van‘, using things I had around the house and things I could buy cheaply.

I started by joining the National Trust, and travelled around the country with my wife, to see various different places.

Then gradually, I found myself in a lay-by, in a car park somewhere, sometimes seeing things in places I didn’t know existed — and I found that I started to breathe differently. I started practising mindfulness again, not as an exercise, but as a reflex, born from having nowhere to be.

Weekend Nomad is where I write about that…

  • The places.
  • The slow observations.
  • The mental health stuff.
  • How you can experience it too.

Honesty. Every week, No fuss.

I really hope you join me.
